The 57xx class were built by the Great Western Railway sporadically from 1929 until 1949.
This locomotive was in service longer than most as after leaving GWR it was bought by London Transport, numbered L92, for use on engineering trains. It was last at Neasden shed in 1971 when steam ended there.
It was subsequently bought by the Worcester Locomotive Society and is now based at the South Devon Railway.
