Vacancy for a Passenger Services Director

We are looking to recruit a Director to manage and develop the Passenger Services Department and to provide support to the Board of Directors and Trustees.

Note: The Passenger Services Department covers customer facing volunteers such those who act as train stewards, ticket inspectors, shop staff, Booking Office clerks, catering staff etc.

Time commitment 

Typically about 10-20 hours per week, exact hours are flexible, see location.

Location 

Some home based - attendance at Board and Management meetings at Chinnor and provide a presence on the trains on some operating days.

Main tasks

  • To lead the strategic planning and development of all services provided by the Passenger Services Department. These include on-train services such as catering, bar sales and stewards activities; also station ticket office, Cambrian catering, and shop.
  • To lead and support / represent the Passenger Services Department at Management and Board meetings.
  • To arrange mentoring, training and assessment of Passenger Services volunteers.
  • To ensure a list of current Passenger Services Department volunteers is maintained, including within the list their capabilities and qualifications.
  • To ensure that a roster is distributed in a timely manner by the Roster Clerk for each operating day covering all of the duties required.
  • To promote efficient use of resources.
Skills/Experience

  • Proven management experience and a keenness for providing good customer experience.
  • Tact, diplomacy and good interpersonal skills and a pleasant telephone manner are essential.
  • Home access to electronic (internet) communications.
  • Experience with using Microsoft Office especially Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work as a team leader and a team player.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.

Additional Information

An interest in heritage railways would be an asset but is by no means essential.
