A year after their main line connection was commissioned and track access agreements signed in March 2017, the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway has announced it is joining the major-league diesel gala event circuit.

The Railway will be operating five visiting former main line diesels plus the resident sole surviving DTG owned Class 17 Clayton No. D8568, between 11 and 13 May between Chinnor and Princes Risborough.

One highlight of the event will be at around 19.00 on 11 May when the Paul Spracklen owned Class 50 No. 50026 Indomitable will visit Princes Risborough, 27 years to the minute from its previous visit there. On 11 May 1990, it became the final Class 50 to call at Princes Risborough on the 18.12 Paddington to Banbury via High Wycombe service.

Other visitors will be Somerset & Dorset Loco Company owned Class 20s Nos. D8059 and D8188 (which starred in a James Bond film Goldeneye) plus the Peak Locomotive Company Ltd owned Class 45 No. 45041 Royal Tank Regiment. This will be the first visit of this class for nearly 30 years and the combined age of these diesels is exactly 200 years!

The fifth engine - and a probable sixth - will be announced on the Chinnor & Princes Risborough website; www.chinnorrailway.co.uk nearer the event date. But it will not be 47192 which will be stabled out of view and not used. The event working timetable is also available on the website. A selection of real ales will be available over the event.

The eight mile round trip incorporates a steep two mile 1 in 68 climb line from Princes Risborough and all trains will be top and tailed.  Advance ticket holders will be entered into a free draw for a cab ride on a locomotive of their choice.

Passengers can only join the trains at Chinnor but a strictly limited number of photographic permits will be issued for Princes Risborough, allowing access to the 100 lever GWR signalbox and associated compound offering an unimpeded view of arrivals and departures from and to Chinnor. These cost an additional £25 for two hours and are only available to advance purchase travel ticket holders please see here for details.

On 9 May four Diesel Driver Experiences at £400pp are available using the visiting locomotives on a full round trip on the line. Contact Chris on 07784 189322 or by email at driverexperience@chinnorrailway.co.uk.
