Santa & The Haddenham Mummers

We extend a very warm welcome to The Haddenham Mummers once again this year - they will visit the Railway on Sunday 03 December, Sunday 10 December & Sunday 17 December to perform in our open-saloon railway carriages their interpretation of a local traditional folk drama or Mummers Play.

Since being revived in 1976, this short and entertaining enactment has been performed in and around local villages on the days leading up to Christmas. Performed inside our open railway carriages on selected dates this year (see above) we hope this light-hearted and traditional bit of local history will suitably entertain our visitors - either before or after Santa and his Elves arrives to chat with the children and distribute the all-important presents!

P.S. It is delivered in Panto-style (oh, no it isn't - oh, yes it is!) and you are invited to cheer on the key-character who is usually The Doctor - but please remember we do have some very small children on-board
- so we suggest no hissing at the villain of the piece please, as we don't want any little-ones to feel concerned or to spoil their visit in any way whatsoever (thank you, one-and-all!).

After each performance a collection hat is passed around for any loose change and any appreciation you may wish to offer for the actors' performance and it goes wholly to four good-causes: the beneficiaries this year will be The MPS Society, Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway, Haddenham Community Library and Helen & Douglas House Hospice.

Please note that whilst the play is performed in the best traditional-style, our Mummers will not be enacting some of the more esoteric moves (so there's no sword fighting on the train!) and they will dress appropriately with silver and gold painted faces, to reflect those earlier and somewhat esoteric Moorish traditions.
