3-Day BIG DIESEL 'THRASH!'

We've listened to the many enthusiasts who said they would travel with us if we put on a 3-Day Big Diesel 'Thrash!'

So we've set the dates for Thur 11 May, Fri 12 May, and Sat 13 May 2017 and we have agreements with the respective owners to hire in 5-Big Heritage Diesels.

And, of course, our unique resident Class 17 Clayton will be thrashing along with the others (and full power on its two engines too!).

It's heavy haulage at it best and with gradients like our 1-68 Chinnor Bank (and there's others, including quite a bump at the Princes Risborough end of the Line): it will be a really, very intensive, 3-Day Big Diesel 'Thrash!'

LOCOMOTIVE LIST (5 GUEST LOCOS + OUR RESIDENT CLAYTON):

DIESEL DRIVER EXPERIENCES:

On Tuesday 09 May we are delighted to offer four Diesel Driver Experiences at £400pp using our guest diesel locomotive(s). But if you buy a Rover ticket in advance for travel on any one of the three days as well... we'll reduce it by £100 (making the cost £300pp). With expert tuition in driving a big diesel given by our friendly and very experienced train crew, you will each take charge of the train for a full trip up and down our scenic branch line. To find out more on locomotive availability and to book your Driver Experience Course please telephone Chris, Experiences Coordinator, on 07784 189322, or please email him at driverexperience@chinnorrailway.co.uk.

EATS & DRINKS ON THE DAY:

We will have guest Ale at pub prices including Wychwood brewery's Hobgoblin and Gunners Gold(what would a Big Diesel Gala be... without Ale?), and we'll also have our own bottle conditioned Ales, various wines and plenty of soft drinks and tea, coffee and snacks etc. Stephanie and her Ladies in our Cambrian Tea Room will serve hot Bacon Rolls, Sausage Baps, and the usual range of moderately priced sandwiches and home-made cakes etc, throughout the day.

HOW TO GET TO CHINNOR:

For the various ways to reach Chinnor station, including the various local bus routes operating on Thursday and Friday please see here.

We are easy to reach by car: Junction 6 on the M40 is just 3 miles away and Princes Risborough is some 4 miles further along the B4009. Once you arrive in Chinnor village just follow the brown tourism signs to reach the railway.

For those visitors who will be arriving and returning home by mainline train from Princes Risborough station - we have now secured a limited free bus service (53 seater) and preference will be given to advance purchase ticket holders between both stations, viz:

Princes Risborough (dep) 09:00 09:45 10:25 11:05 16:05 17:05 18:05
Chinnor (arr) 09:15 10:00 10:40 11:20 16:20 17:20 18:20

Please note that this limited free bus service (53 seater) follows our best endeavours to hire a vehicle and driver, and due to road traffic conditions we cannot guarantee connections.

TIMETABLES:

PLEASE BUY YOUR TICKET IN ADVANCE WITH ADVANTAGES:

First off, it's cheaper... (even taking into account the £2 Agency booking fee).

When you buy your ticket in advance your details will be entered into our Money-can't-BuyFree Prize Draw and on each date of the Big Diesel 'Thrash!' there will be TWO places available each day (one per winner) enabling you to get close up and personal and ride in the cab of the lead locomotive for a selected approximately 2-hour timeslot on the day of your visit. How good is that?!

Also, for the Photographers, when you buy your ticket in advance we will have a very limited number of Photographic Permits available for sale at £25 each and you will have the possibility with 3 others on a timed 2-hour slot to visit the top floor of our partially restored Princes Risborough North Signalbox to take some unique images of the cavalcade (and the Chiltern Mainline, of course!). We will also have a specially fenced off area outside the 'box at ground level for use only by these Permit holders for some more unique location shots.

The 2-hour slots are 09.45 - 11.45 (see 10.11 arr / 10.15 dep and 11.11 arr / 11.15 dep); 11.45 - 13.45 (see 12.11 arr / 12.15 dep and 13.11 arr / 13.15 dep); 14.30 - 16.30 (see 14.56 arr / 15.00 dep and 15.56 arr / 16.00 dep); 16.30 - 18.30 (see 16.56 arr / 17.00 dep and 17.56 arr / 18.00 dep). Please book your Day Rover ticket online below and make a note of your booking reference number - then give us a call on our General Enquiries 07979 055366 (available 10.00 - 17.00) to book your time slot and pay for your permit.

See above re £100 discount on a Diesel Driver Experience on Tuesday 09 May only!

We also have a car park at Chinnor station with limited capacity and for those who buy your ticket in advance it will be FREE to park.

Booking information

We've had to put our prices up a bit on this one and that to hopefully help us just break-even; but from the feedback we had last year, everyone seemed to understand we'll have to pay some large bills to make it all happen (and although every penny profit goes straight back into keeping the trains running throughout the year, we're not intending to be greedy here - we just thank you for your support and hope you will come back on future occasions).
