The Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway is holding a series of Steam Locomotive driving experience days throughout 2009.
Learn how to control a powerful ex BR main line steam locomotive along the picturesque but challenging 'Icknield Line'. Climb the 1 in 68 bank from Wainhill to Chinnor. Listen to the bark of the locomotive as it responds to your hands on the regulator.
Find out how to bring the train to a gentle stop at the correct place along the platform.
Silver Steam Experience.
Share a morning or afternoon on the footplate with only one other trainee. Your fully qualified steam locomotive driver will look after you at every step.
Includes:
- Introduction to the safe working of a steam locomotive.
- This package offers a total distance of approx 10 miles hands on experience on a steam locomotive footplate for each person including approximately 3 miles driving a light engine and approximately 7 miles of driving a steam hauled train over the complete length of the ‘Icknield Line’.
- The experience lasts 4 hours starting at 09.00 hrs or 14.00 hrs.
- One year's free membership of the C&PRRA.
- Presentation Certificate.
- Refreshments and lunch in the Cambrian Buffet at Chinnor Station.
- All inclusive price:- £350 per person. (two persons per package)
Gold Steam Experience. Have the loco to yourself for 4 hours.
This is an individual steam experience maximising the time spent at the controls of a vintage steam locomotive under the supervision of a fully qualified steam locomotive driver on the ‘Icknield Line’.
Includes:
- Introduction to the safe working of a steam locomotive.
- This package offers a total distance of approx 20 miles hands on experience on a steam locomotive footplate including approximately 6 miles driving a light engine and approximately 14 miles of driving a steam hauled train over the complete length of the ‘Icknield Line’.
- Each experience lasts 4 hrs starting at 09.00 hrs or 14.00 hrs.
- One year's free membership of the C&PRRA.
- Presentation Certificate.
- Refreshments and lunch in the Cambrian Buffet at Chinnor Station.
- All inclusive price:- £650 per person. (one person only per experience)
