Accessibility Guide

We are delighted to welcome all Visitors to the Railway, including those who are less able and any accompanying carer or assistance dog. Some of our Volunteers have disabilities and with their experiences and advice, we hope that the information shown below will help those travelling with us:

Chinnor Station

Level access suitable for wheelchairs is available via the old Station Approach road, and utilising a side-gate to the platform. Whilst parking is not generally allowed on this road, you can drop passengers off at the side-gate and then park up in the main station car park and return again at the end of your visit. Access to the old Station Approach road is gained by turning right into the road on the Chinnor village side of the railway bridge and then along the front of the dental surgery. Please drive slowly, keeping a good lookout for children who often play in the area.

Passengers who are less able are encouraged to call General Enquiries on 07979 055366 (10.00 - 16.00) before travelling, or alternatively ask to speak with the Duty Line Manager on arrival at Chinnor station please. We can then ensure that our Volunteer staff are informed and that, if required, the gate from the old Station Approach road is open if needed.

Toilet facilities for the disabled are available at Chinnor station. No toilets with disabled access are available on the train.

On the train

Most of our steam and diesel hauled trains are accessible for an individual with a disability. If you are in a wheelchair but you can step aboard and move to a seat (via the somewhat narrow connecting doors of our heritage vehicles), then your wheelchair can be left on the platform at Chinnor under the watchful eyes of our Volunteer station staff.

However, wheelchairs and all scooters can normally travel in the Guard’s Brakevan. Here you will find a table at a window and non-slip flooring, plus a chair for one accompanying carer or companion. Access is via a ramp and unfortunately, due to Social Distancing, we are unable to provide our normal level of assistance or support - so it is your responsibility for boarding using the ramp please. We will have space on our train for ONE pre-booked wheelchair only together with one accompanied Carer. Wheelchair requirements MUST be included at the time of booking please.

No disabled access toilets are available on the train.

Concessionary Travel

In recognition that some visitors with a registered disability may need an additional level of help which only your accompanying carer can provide, then we can offer you and your carer an opportunity to travel together for the cost of one full price Adult Rover ticket (£12) on our standard daytime services.
