We are delighted to welcome all visitors to the Railway, including those who are less able and any accompanying carers or assistance dogs. Some of our volunteers have disabilities and with their experiences and advice, we hope that the information shown below will help those travelling with us:
Level access suitable for wheelchairs is available via the old Station Approach road, and utilising a side-gate to the platform. Whilst parking is not generally allowed on this road, cars displaying a disabled drivers badge may be allowed to park on the grass verge for the duration of their visit. Access to the old Station Approach road is gained by turning right into the road on the Chinnor village side of the railway bridge and then along the front of the dental surgery. Please drive slowly, keeping a good lookout for children who often play in the area.
Passengers who are less able are encouraged to call General Enquiries on 07979 055366 (10.00 - 16.00) before travelling, or alternatively to contact the Duty Line Manager on arrival at Chinnor please. We can then ensure that our volunteer staff are informed and that, if required, the gate from the old Station Approach road is open and that we are ready to offer assistance where needed.
Toilet facilities for the disabled are available at Chinnor station. No toilets with disabled access are available on the train.
PRINCES RISBOROUGH STATION
Station services are provided by Chiltern Railways - except that the heritage line provides a ticket office located on Platform 4, where you can book tickets to travel to Chinnor on the same day. ON THE TRAIN
Most of our steam and diesel hauled trains are accessible for an individual with a disability. If you are in a wheelchair but you can can step aboard and move to a seat, then our carriages have a space opposite the entrance/exit door in which your folded wheelchair may be carried. You can move between the carriages on the level but the somewhat narrow connecting doors of our heritage vehicles will stop you from doing so in a wheelchair or scooter.
However, wheelchairs and all scooters can normally travel in the Guard’s Van. Here you will find a table at a window and non-slip flooring, plus chairs for any accompanying carer or companions. Access is via a ramp (note that whilst the on-train crew are there to help you, it is your responsibility for boarding using the ramp please).
Again, access to the rest of the train is on the level but restricted by the narrow connecting doors into the coach saloons. We regret that wheelchair access is not available on our DMU (railcar) trains and is not available on our evening dining trains.
No disabled access toilets are available on the train.
In recognition that some visitors with a registered disability may need an additional level of help which only your accompanying carer can provide, then we may offer your carer one complimentary travel ticket on our standard daytime services. Please note that this concession does not apply to Santa Specials or any evening dining services or any other special event days (where the demand is expected to be high). An appropriate full price Adult or Child ticket must always be purchased by the person with the registered disability and on application, one accompanying carer’s ticket will be issued free. The Carers concession ticket applies only on standard operating days and tickets must be obtained at the Booking Office on the day of your visit.
