Chinese web hackers temporarily stop Santa Special bookings...

The Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway’s website www.chinnorrailway.co.uk was hit by Chinese based web hackers in mid November preventing would-be Santa Special passengers booking on-line for a nearly a week.
The problem was only discovered after disappointed passengers called the booking line to ask why on-line bookings were being rejected.
The website’s access log was downloaded and investigated by railway technical volunteers and found that Chinese page access requests outnumbered requests from Great Britain by 30 to 1 blocking access.

Colin the volunteer Chinnor webmaster said, “It was the volume of traffic that exceeded the website’s bandwidth resulting in its closure thus hitting the charity at its busiest time of the year. A software patch was designed and installed resulting in resumption of on-line Santa bookings.”

Other bookings blocked included the unique Christmas present, the special ticket to enjoy a one hour ride on the steam locomotive with the driver and fireman. These have also reopened for bookings.
Five steam hauled Santa Specials serve Princes Risborough and Chinnor on Saturdays and Sundays in December departing Chinnor between 1015hrs and 1530hrs and from Princes Risborough between 1045hrs and 1445hrs.

Santa travels on, and meets everyone on the train with a present for children. He advises that to guarantee seeing him on your first choice of train, reservations are essential.  Santa will not be on the steam hauled traveling evening Carol Service train on the 14 December though.
