The locomotive is 60 years old and was based, along with the Royal Train, at the world’s oldest and longest continually open railway works at Wolverton, Milton Keynes.

The locomotive weighs 50 tons and was regularly to be seen hauling The Royal Train between the Works and the West Coast Main Line and was named ‘Wolverton’ over 30 years ago. It departed Wolverton Works on a low loader at noon on 14 February 2020 arriving at Chinnor a few hours later.

The locomotive has been privately purchased and the new owner will initially base the dual braked locomotive at the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway. It, and its sister engine, 08649 operated at that railway in 2013 courtesy of Wolverton Works' Dave Hilliard.
