The autumn Chilterns Walking Festival will take place 16 - 31 October 2021. The programme includes over 60 guided countryside walks, activities and events including routes centred around nature reserves, iron age hillforts, farms, churches and filming locations.
Bookings are now live including Steam, Kites & and a Kiln along the Ridgeway - explore Chinnor's Old Kiln Lakes, where historic quarries have been regenerated to attract a wide range of wildlife, including swans, geese and the iconic red kites. We then visit a beehive kiln, a rare survivor from the site's industrial past, before heading out onto the Ridgeway, where we visit Oakley Hill nature reserve, home to rare chalk grassland flora and fauna, with superb views over Oxfordshire from the edge of the Chiltern escarpment.
We return to Chinnor via the historic sunken way of Donkey Lane, in time for the 13.30 steam train departure (tickets can be purchased in advance or on the day) with an hour's return journey to Princes Risborough, giving lovely views of the Chilterns, through Bledlow towards Whiteleaf Cross.
