We extend a very warm welcome to The Haddenham Mummers once again this year - they will visit the Railway on Sunday 16 December to perform at intervals their interpretation of a local traditional folk drama or Mummers Play. The enactments will take place in our marquee which is next to the platform at Chinnor station.
Since being revived in 1976, these short and entertaining happenings have been performed in and around local villages on the days leading up to Christmas. We hope this light-hearted and traditional piece of local history will entertain our visitors - either before or after boarding the train to see Santa and his Elves when they will distribute the all-important presents!
Please note that the play is delivered in Panto-style (oh, no it isn't - oh, yes it is!) with some terrible rhymes and you are invited to cheer on Number One, King George, the Turkish Knight and the Doctor as they perform the short story which includes a sword fight and a railway visit by the Doctor.
After each performance a collection hat is passed around for any loose change and any appreciation you may wish to offer for the actors' performance and it goes wholly to four good-causes this year: the beneficiaries will be The MPS Society, Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway, Haddenham Community Library and Helen & Douglas House Hospice.
