Enjoy a unique Midsomer Walking Tour of Thame followed by a steam train trip on The Icknield Line from Chinnor, including classic Cream Tea in the Restaurant Car!
The tours commence at 14.00 in Thame on 5 April, 17 May, 31 May, 14 June, 5 July, 2 August, 23 August, and 13 September with a gentle Midsomer Walking Tour and then make your way to Chinnor station for the 16.30 departure for Cream Tea in the dining area on the train - all this at our special joint ticket price of £25 per adult.
Thame is one of the most frequently used filming locations in the globally popular ITV series, Midsomer Murders, featuring either as Causton or as one of the villages in the fictional Midsomer County. Many Thame landmarks such as the Town Hall, Market House, Rumsey’s Chocolaterie, Black Horse pub & brasserie, and the historic Swan and Spread Eagle hotels have featured in various episodes over time.
The Midsomer Tours of Thame are led by specially trained Midsomer tour guides. They start at 14.00 at Thame Museum, one of the filming locations (located at 79 High Street, Thame OX9 3AE), and take in all the other filming locations in the town.
Continuing our Midsomer theme, Chinnor has appeared in Midsomer Murders on several occasions. Chinnor’s railway station became Holm Lane Junction for Death in a Chocolate Box, first shown on 11 May 2008. Station signs were changed, buffers were installed, and the station platform and train were drenched, all to create the Midsomer illusion.
Our journey from Chinnor is by steam train and your reserved seat in the Restaurant Car includes passing over the level crossing at Wainhill, which featured in the The Made to Measure Murders. During the round trip of approximately 65 minutes, we will serve your choice of freshly brewed tea or coffee and accompanying scones with jam and butter plus Rhodda's Clotted Cream - all nicely served on our GWR Hotels crockery.
All the while your steam locomotive is lazily billowing steam past your window or the vintage diesel is growling along the line between Chinnor and Princes Risborough and return. With lovely views gradually opening out to Whiteleaf Cross and the Vale of Aylesbury in the distance, plus the Red Kites often whirling overhead, it is surely going to be the perfect Midsomer treat.
Please note that Thame (OX9 3AE) is 5 miles from Chinnor station (OX39 4BZ) and approximately 12 minutes by car - there is no public transport available on Sundays between the two locations. Car parking is free, both in Thame town centre and at Chinnor railway station.
