We are delighted that GWR Steam Locomotive No. 6412 from our friends at the South Devon Railway will be providing steam power on our steam hauled trains from now until the end of the 2021 season. The 87-year-old locomotive has been a regular and strong performer on our line and is much loved by all our Visitors and Volunteers.

July could be a good time to visit - from the comfort of your reserved seats see the panorama of the Chiltern foothills unfold and the hedgerows and fields bloom into glorious summer - you might spot some of our local wildlife too and it is rather rare not to see Red Kites whirling overhead! Either before or after your train ride and when the weather is good - you could try a healthy but gentle Chinnor Circular Walk, or if you have small children it is just a short stroll from the station to the nearby Chinnor Children's Play Area. If you are looking for something more in the local area please see our What to see and do section (although please be aware that at this step in the 'Road to Recovery' not everything is yet open or available!).

Your reserved seats on the Steam hauled train can be either in your own private Compartment or at a table in Open-plan saloons. Our range of concessionary fares for children, seniors, local residents, Blue Lamp card holders etc., will continue to be available in Open-plan seating areas.

COMPARTMENTS: for your comfort and peace of mind - you can purchase your own Compartment which is for your exclusive use for up to SIX persons. A compartment has six seats and is your own self-contained space - which means that once onboard you can close the internal door and make it your own space.

Food and drink:

We have a 'POP-UP' REFRESHMENT STALL on Chinnor station serving Teas, Coffees, Cakes, Crisps, Shortbread, Coke & Diet Coke, Apple & Orange Juice Cartons and Bottled Water. In addition we will have a selection of Sandwiches and Bacon, Sausage, Veggie Baps etc., all freshly made on request. Payment by the 'new normal' of Contactless Card is greatly appreciated.

Princes Risborough Lifts not working at present:

If you alight at Princes Risborough and wish to use the lifts to cross between platforms then please note Chiltern Railways have said they are temporarily not in operation (Sunday 25 July).

Booking information

Return journeys starting from Chinnor can be booked online (see below). If you would like to book a journey in Open-Plan seating starting at Princes Risborough or for travel in only one direction, please contact us on 07979 055366 or by email bookings@chinnorrailway.co.uk - Compartments are not available for these journeys. Seats can only be guaranteed for any journey if booked in advance.

You will be able to transfer your tickets to an equivalent service on another date (where available) or transfer the value of your booking to a Gift Certificate to use at a future date if either a) Government restrictions mean we cannot operate the service/event, or that you are not permitted to travel to the Railway or b) You or a member of your party test positive for Covid-19 or are required to self-isolate and you notify us on 07979 055366 at least 2 hours prior to departure of your booked train service. If you have symptoms of Covid-19 or have been in contact with someone who has you MUST NOT attend the Railway. All of our other usual booking terms remain unchanged.

We welcome one Wheelchair User and a Carer / Companion on our trains. We also welcome well-behaved pet dogs, who can travel for free - but not on seats or in restaurant areas - please bring a blanket or similar for them to sit on - thank you.

All ages must be included on your ticket to receive an allocated seat. Up to TWO additional under 5-yrs may travel free of charge. Buggies and Strollers cannot be accommodated on the train. They can be left on the platform at our stations, or you may prefer to leave them in your car for added security.
