We are delighted that GWR Steam Locomotive No. 6412 from our friends at the South Devon Railway will be providing steam power on all our steam hauled trains from now until the end of the 2021/22 season. The 87-year-old locomotive has been a regular and strong performer on our line and is much loved by all our Visitors and Volunteers. From the comfort of your thoughtfully reserved seats see the panorama of the Chiltern foothills unfold as the steam drifts gently past your window - you might spot some of our local wildlife too, and it is rather rare not to see Red Kites whirling overhead! For more information on what you can see en-route please take a look at our Journey Guide from Chinnor to Princes Risborough.
Your reserved seats on the steam-hauled train when starting out from Chinnor can be either in your own private Compartment, or in Open-plan saloons (in Open-plan we will aim wherever possible NOT to reserve other families / individuals at the same table). Our range of concessionary fares for children, seniors, local residents, Blue Lamp card holders etc., will also continue to be available in Open-plan seating areas.
When you book your tickets below they will include seat reservations for one complete round trip at the departure time shown for the steam train from Chinnor to Princes Risborough and return - the round trip journey time is approximately 1-hour. See also below for information on 'Break of Journey and Multiple Journeys on Same Date' if required.
COMPARTMENTS: for your comfort and peace of mind - you can purchase your own Compartment which is for your exclusive use for up to SIX persons for one complete round trip of the line. A compartment has six seats and is your own self-contained space - which means that once onboard you can close the internal door, then relax and enjoy the journey with family and friends.
OPEN-PLAN SEATS: these carriages offer seating around a table for between one and up to four people for one complete round trip of the line. We will aim wherever possible NOT to reserve other families / individuals at the same table. In the event that our reserved seats in the Open-plan carriage are SOLD OUT on your chosen service, then we always have at least one full coach of 64-SEATS AVAILABLE on every train and you can either BOOK FLEXIBLE TICKETS HERE OR buy them at our stations on the day!
We are delighted to offer a range of even further Adult Half-price Fare Reductions to certain Concessionary Card Holders for travel in Open-plan seats only and these include:

On both TIMETABLE 'A' and TIMETABLE 'C' dates you may choose to break your journey at Princes Risborough and travel back by a different train service on the same day, and / or you may also choose to make further trips of the line on the same day (such as on our midday (12.05) vintage diesel service on TIMETABLE 'A' dates from Chinnor). But in all such cases you will then need to travel in our UNRESERVED section of the train and these seats are limited and cannot be guaranteed. We request the wearing of face coverings in the UNRESERVED section of the train, especially on busy services.
There is a 'POP-UP' REFRESHMENT STALL on Chinnor station serving Teas, Coffees, Cakes, Crisps, Shortbread, Coke & Diet Coke, Apple & Orange Juice Cartons and Bottled Water. In addition we will have a selection of Sandwiches and Bacon, Sausage, Veggie Baps etc., all freshly made on request. Payment by the 'new normal' of Contactless Card is greatly appreciated.
Either before or after your train ride and when the weather is good - you could try a healthy but gentle Chinnor Circular Walk, or if you have small children it is just a short stroll from the station to the nearby Chinnor Children's Play Area. If you are looking for something more in the local area please see our What to see and do section for more information.
Please check back regularly or do follow us on our official Twitter or Facebook pages. Or why not sign up to our Newsletter to be one of the first to know about happenings at our Railway? We’re really looking forward to welcoming you back soon!
