Steam Gala Featuring Three Guest Locos:

Image: courtesy of Dinmore Manor Locomotive Ltd

Join us at the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway for an unforgettable Steam Gala on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - 13, 14, 15 September 2024, as we commemorate our 30th Anniversary of running passenger trains.

There will be THREE locomotives in steam:

7820 Dinmore Manor is on hire courtesy of Dinmore Manor Locomotive Ltd and our friends at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. Not only will Dinmore Manor be the first tender locomotive to visit our line for a significant period of time, but we're pretty sure Dinmore Manor will be the first ever Manor class to work to Chinnor!

On Saturday and Sunday 14-15 September there will be in steam at Chinnor station two visiting road engines courtesy of Ali and Paul Green:

1922 6 ton Aveling and Porter roller 'Jenny' FX 9743

4" Foster agricultural engine 'Little Miss Enden'

Brake Van rides at Princes Risborough on 13, 14, 15 September: these will take place between steam departures and arrivals using our beautifully restored Toad brake van and hauled up and down by D2069 (only 9 years younger than Dinmore!). Brake van rides are included in the ticket price!

An intensive steam timetable will operate each day as shown below:

It's steam haulage at its best and with gradients like our 1-68 Chinnor Bank (and there's others, including quite an incline at the Princes Risborough end of the Line), it will be a really very intensive 3-Days of Steam!

This is the first occasion that an all-steam Gala has been run over 3-days on the line and so please do make an advance note in your diary, or see below and book your saver tickets today!

You can join our steam hauled trains at either Chinnor or Princes Risborough stations - for car parking and public transport access please see the section on Arriving. Then choose your seats, sit back, relax - for further information please see our Journey Guide.

If you are maybe thinking of coming for two or perhaps three days see our local Where to Stay Guide.

STEAM GALA FARES:

Steam Gala tickets are issued as go-as-you-please Day Rovers and are valid on every train and all day long. Stay for the whole day - or book in advance for two or three day ticket bundles!

Due to the high cost of providing two additional steam locomotives, including extra hire, transport and fuel charges, our Standard Day prices and concessionary rates do not apply. Please note there are no concessionary fares available and no free or privilege rate tickets will be issued - only the Adult and Child fares shown below will apply.

Adult and Child tickets may be purchased at stations or online until 18.00 on the day before travel. If bought online the 'adult' tickets are generally £5 cheaper than buying at stations (note £2 agency fee per online transaction applies):

1-DAY ROVER TICKET - PURCHASE AT STATIONS OR ONLINE:

2-DAY ROVER TICKET BUNDLE - ONLY AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE ONLINE:

3-DAY ROVER TICKET BUNDLE - ONLY AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE ONLINE:

Accessiblity we welcome all visitors to the Railway, including those who are less able and their accompanying carer or assistance dog. As noted above there are no Concessionary fares available for carers on this occasion. Wheelchair spaces are limited to one per steam hauled train and reservations for your wheelchair must be obtained in advance - please call 07979-055366 (10.00-16.00) to book.

Well-behaved small dogs travel Free - they must be kept on a short lead and must NOT be allowed on the seats - do bring a blanket or similar for them to sit on the floor please. Dogs are NOT allowed in any dining areas (except Assistant dogs).

Buggies and strollers CANNOT be accommodated on the trains. They may be left on the platform at our stations, or if arriving by car you may prefer to leave them in your vehicle.

No seat reservations are required on any Special Steam Gala Day train services - which means that you can choose to sit in any seating areas of the passenger accommodation on every train.

FOOD & DRINK:

The Station Café at Chinnor serves teas, coffees, assorted drinks, juice cartons and bottled water. We also have a selection of sandwiches and baps all freshly made on the day, together with hot sausage rolls and pasties, homemade cakes, biscuits, crisps etc. A trolley service of tea, coffee and snacks will also be available on some trains. We will also have our own Chinnor Ales and guest Beers at pub prices (what would a Steam Gala be... without Ale?).
