The perfect taster experience for 'steam buffs' and it could make a lovely gift for a birthday or to celebrate a memorable occasion!
Only one lucky person on selected dates can join our steam crew from an observer perspective on the 13.15 departure from Chinnor for an approximately 1-hour long round trip.
The journey includes some arduous work by steam locomotive 4555 including the 1 in 68 banks, and you will see everything from the working-end and experience the sights, sounds, smell and heat of a ‘live’ steam engine!
Our expert and highly experienced Driver and Fireman will be pleased to answer your questions and show you various points of interest during the journey.
Please note that you will NOT be invited to touch any of the controls and you will NOT be driving or firing the locomotive - this is purely observing our steam locomotive and crew in action whilst travelling with them on the footplate.

TIMES & AVAILABILITY
Steam footplate rides are only available on the 13.15 departure from Chinnor on 14, 21, 28 April; 05, 06, 12, 19, 26, 27 May; 02, 09, 23, 30 June; 07, 14, 21, 28 July; 04, 11, 18, 25, 26 August; 01, 08, 22, 29 September 2024.
All dates and times are subject to availability and must be booked in advance - see below for times and availability.
THE PARTICIPANT MUST
1. Be aged 18 years and over.
2. Be reasonably fit and in good health - fit enough to climb on and off the locomotive quickly and from ground level unaided, if required.
3. Be able to stand on the locomotive footplate for the approximately 1-hour round-trip.
4. Wear old clothing that fully covers your arms and legs.
5. Wear sturdy shoes / boots that protect your feet - trainers are not permitted.
6. Not attend the experience under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Please note that the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway reserves the right to reschedule any Steam Observer Experience or refuse entry for whatever reason. There is a maximum of one participant per ride and no other guests are allowed on the footplate.
