On Saturday 29 June you could get a hands-on Driver, Shunter and Signaller Taster Experience which includes driving one of our diesel shunter locomotives from Chinnor station in and out of the yard, working as a shunter coupling and uncoupling a wagon, and in the signalbox you will operate the lever frame - all under the instruction and guidance of our friendly, professional volunteer staff.
Your Taster Experience begins when you join at the time shown with two other participants for a safety briefing. Your activities will follow the style we more generally offer on our Network Rail training days for rail professionals!
Each participant will:
- Join the locomotive crew and be invited to drive from Chinnor platform down the Main
- Couple to a wagon, which itself needs to be uncoupled from a barrier vehicle behind
- Then run with your consist back towards the platform and stop beyond our signal 14
- Propel back down into the Yard and couple the hauled wagon to another barrier vehicle
- Uncouple the locomotive and run light engine back to the platform
Price: Usual price £200 / BOOK NOW £125. Your whole Taster Experience lasts approximately 1¼ hours and the price includes a voucher for a 'bacon butty' or sausage sandwich plus a hot drink. You will also receive a Chinnor Railway Certificate, plus small goody bag of merchandise.
Friends and family: You are welcome to bring along friends and family, however their opportunity to view is necessarily limited to the station platform. Our catering volunteer will be on hand at the Station Café serving drinks and snacks at our regular prices.
Locomotive: depending upon availability the engine roster includes 08825 or D2069. We are unable to advise any particular locomotive will be available on the day, but our aim is to operate with 08825.

Booking information
THE PARTICIPANT MUST:
1. Be aged over 18 years.
2. Be reasonably fit and in good health - fit enough to climb on and off the locomotive from ground level unaided, if required.
3. Wear old clothing that fully covers your arms and legs.
4. Wear sturdy shoes / boots that protect your feet - trainers are not permitted.
5. Not attend the ride / experience under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Please note that the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway reserves the right to reschedule any Experience or refuse entry for whatever reason. There is a maximum of one participant per ride and no other guests are allowed on the footplate, or in the Yard / Signalbox.
