A Teddy Bear is still one of the most popular toys for children - no matter what new toys come onto the market, they never surpass the global popularity that Teddy holds in all our young hearts!
“If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a……” well not the woods actually, in fact the big surprise could be at the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway! On Early May Bank Holiday weekend 04, 05, 06 May and again on Sunday 22 September 2024 it's maybe time for the children to take Teddy out of the home and to make that favourite bear the centre of everyones' attention!
Our Station Master Teddy, and he who makes all the rules, has said that accompanied CHILDREN who come along to the Railway with their favourite bear will TRAVEL FREE. (Or even if Teddy doesn't come along it's still only £1 for 3-15 year-olds and under 3 years go free.)
We have a range of Adult fares £10 - £16 available too - perhaps those adults who accompany the young folks and their Teddy may still have their childhood bear in a cupboard somewhere and maybe they could bring them along and shoot a few selfies to share on Facebook and Instagram too? P.S. Sorry, no further reductions for Adults with their bear!
At some point on your visit you may be greeted by our larger than life Station Master Teddy - in addition there is a Teddy Bear Hunt on Chinnor station - can you spot the hidden Bears?!
Quick history of the Teddy Bear: we need to roll back the clock to something that happened 122 years ago. In 1902, Theodore Rossevelt was the President of the United States and during that year he refused to shoot a bear cub while he was in Mississippi on a hunting trip. The incident was quickly 'wired' to the newspapers and from which Morris Michtom, a store owner in New York, decided to create a new bear toy. He sent a letter to the President, asking Mr. Roosevelt if the new toy could be called 'Teddy Bear'. The rest, as they say, is history...
