The perfect taster experience and a memorable occasion!
Only one lucky person on selected departures can join our steam crew for an observer perspective for a single-leg journey along the line, i.e. from Chinnor to Princes Risborough OR from Princes Risborough to Chinnor.
The journey includes some arduous work by the steam locomotive including the 1 in 68 banks, and you will see everything from the working-end and experience the sights, sounds, smell and heat of a ‘live’ steam engine!
Our expert and highly experienced Drivers and Firemen will be pleased to answer your questions and show you various points of interest during the single-leg journey.
Please note that you will NOT be invited to touch any of the controls and you will NOT be driving or firing the locomotive - this is purely observing one of our guest steam locomotives and their crew in action whilst travelling with them on the footplate.
Pricing
A single-leg Steam Observer experience costs just £40 although you will also need to make sure you have a Day Rover ticket available to purchase from our Autumn Steam Gala webpage.

Booking information
THE PARTICIPANT MUST:
1. Be aged 18 years and over.
2. Be reasonably fit and in good health - fit enough to climb on and off the locomotive quickly and from ground level unaided.
3. Be able to stand on the locomotive footplate for the approximately 20 minutes single-leg journey.
4. Wear old clothing that fully covers your arms and legs.
5. Wear sturdy shoes / boots that protect your feet - trainers are not permitted.
6. Not attend the experience under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Please note that the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway reserves the right to reschedule any Steam Observer Experience or refuse entry for whatever reason. There is a maximum of one participant per ride and no other guests are allowed on the footplate.
Please arrive on the platform 20-minutes before your train departure. Ask any of our staff to introduce you to our Stationmaster, who will run through the procedure for joining your footplate ride. They will escort you to the footplate and introduce you to the Driver and Fireman - please note joining will be from ground level and you will need to climb into the cab.
