Do you have an interest in railway signalling? The S&T (Signal & Telegraph) department installs and maintains all the signalling equipment on our Railway including the signals and point mechanisms, the signal boxes and everything within and between.
Using heritage kit and traditional techniques so far as practical, it's a mix of civil, mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering all tied together by a systems (logical) overview; plus lots of restoration and painting! We also look after the phone system, many of the instruments having dials and some even having wooden cases! Cabling the length of the line and creating a public signalling demonstration at Princes Risborough are also on our agenda.
A wide range of skills are needed - those with metalworking skills, building/carpentry, trenching and cable laying etc to their names, are particularly welcome! Mainly a weekend activity, but other days when needed/possible.
